Feet slipping, your body smashes to the deck. It’s a miracle you didn’t go overboard...like most of your shipmates.
Crawling & slipping across the deck, you lash yourself to the wheel and squint out into the storm…as you frantically think...Which way to steer?
A lighthouse in a storm, your vision statement has immense value. It serves as a guiding purpose, a reference point amidst life’s daily challenges & distractions.
Despite intense odds lining up against your ambition, your vision will keep you on course, and inspire you to never quit.
So take time to define one. Good quality time to assess the right summation of your purpose. If you haven’t thoroughly analyzed your internal interests & passions and/or those of your grandchildren, you really should plan to do that first.
Don’t worry too much about editing your vision statement as you brainstorm. Enjoy that non-judgmental moment when you are inspired to let your thoughts & emotions flow quickly. Write out several pages of ideas if that’s helpful to explore the root concept.
As in finding your soulmate…you’ll know when you got it right!
Once you have the legacy vision well-formed in your mind & heart…then take time to filter down the concept to as few words as possible….break it down from pages or paragraphs of material …all the way down to one sentence. If possible, to only a few words.
Words that connect deeply with you. Words that summarize a plethora of inspiration, feeling, and thoughtful reflection.
You are now ready to steer your ship to safety & share your vision with others…
Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill, and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.
